Summary of  “The Path Through The Cemetery”

This story “The Path Through The Cemetery” written by Leonard Q. Ross is about a boy named Ivan. Ivan was always mocked for being timid and quiet. He was always scared to go through the cemetery. He usually just walks around the place but never crosses the “bridge.” A lot of people think that the cemetery is haunted and if you ever cross the bridge something will pull you. One day the Lieutenant mocked him and said “You are a pigeon , Ivan. You’ll walk all around the cemetery in this cold - but you dare not cross it.” Although Ivan was scared, he did not admit it. He responded with “The cemetery is nothing to cross, Lieutenant. It is nothing but earth, like all the other earth.” Soon he got challenged to cross the cemetery at night, for 5 gold rubles. The 5 gold rubles were the reason why he wanted to do it but at the same time he was very scared. The night came in and he had to do it, “For five gold rubles…” He murmured. Ivan did get to the cemetery and staked the saber to the ground of the cemetery. As he was standing up, something was pulling him from the ground. Ivan panicked and panicked but that did no good for him. The Lieutenant found him dead and frozen. They could see the terror in his eyes.

Our story screams out an event about a boy named Ivan. Ivan is bullied and is convinced with 5 gold rubles to cross the cemetery, one of his bullies also say that he has to stick a blue saber into a tomb in the middle of the cemetery . Once he does this he feels as if he were pulled, stuck, and grabbed. The next day his bullies see him on the ground frozen to death. His bullies do nothing about it and continues their day. Our theme is “Never let anyone tell you what to do except your parents.” Sentences I’m about to give you supports our theme. “You are a pigeon Ivan. You’ll walk all around the cemetery in this cold, but dare not cross it.” “The cemetery is nothing to cross Lieutenant. It is nothing but earth, like all the other earth.” “A challenge then! Cross the cemetery tonight, Ivan” He followed the orders and that’s how he got killed.
